The D-backs end up with three representatives in Atlanta
As previously discussed, Ketel Marte was voters by fans as the National League’s starting second baseman for the 2025 All-Star Game, that will take place on July 15 at Atlanta’s Truist Park. There was some suspicion that might be it for representatives from the D-backs this year. But when the rest of the rosters were announced this afternoon, both outfielder Corbin Carroll and third baseman Eugenio Suarez were also part of the NL roster.
Carroll only returned to the active list yesterday, having missed a couple of weeks due to a fractured wrist. But until then, he has been enjoying a stellar season. Carroll came into play today with a line of .251/.335/.564 for an OPS of .899 (OPS+ 145), having hit 20 home-runs already. Suarez has been even better in the long-ball department, leading the team with 28 HR. His line so far is .255/.322/.569, a .891 OPS (OPS+ 143). The selection represents a startling turnaround for both men on a year ago. Going into play on July 6, 2024, Carroll had an OPS of just. 557 and Suarez .607. Over the past 365 days, both have been among the best hitters in baseball, with OPS of .905 and .930 respectively.
It will also be the second career appearance in the game for each. Carroll was previously selected in 2023, on his way to a unanimous choice as the NL Rookie of the Year, while Suarez went to the All-Star Game in 2018, as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. For some inexplicable reason, no member of the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff was selected to take part. Though I’m sure they will be in high demand for the Home Run Derby…
