D-backs 2, Giants 5: The Suns will come out tomorrow…

Or where I try to pay attention to the Dbacks when the Suns are hogging all the AZ glory.

Hello my fellow suffering Dbacks fans!

Monday is here, and that means it’s happy hour somewhere, and specifically for me it’s happy hour right now.

Beer 1: Idaho Smash Pale Ale by Simple Machine

Well folks, historically writing this lovely little thing called a Beercap was fun as fun could be. Even bad seasons were made fun by imbibing and writing. This season though, hits different. At least the Suns are great, and after punching their ticket to the Western Conference Finals last night they’re providing a much needed distraction from these much maligned Dbacks. Ugghhhh. Drink!!!!

Nothing to report in the 1st inning outside of Peacock narrowly escaping disaster by avoiding giving any runs up at all despite loading up the bases. That sir does not bode well….0-0 going to the 2nd.

Peacock’s luck appears to be running thin; giving up a leadoff single followed by a double to Vosler. Somehow though (damned if I know how) Peacock strikes out Alex Wood followed by a nicely executed double play to end the inning. Nice, still 0-0 going to the 3rd.

Still no offense from any Dback bat in the top of the 3rd, though I personally struggle to understand if it’s been our arms or bats that have failed us more this season. Perhaps that’s a good debate for another time.

Whelp, Peacock’s luck truly ran out with a Belt double to drive in Solano in the 3rd giving the Giants the lead. 0-1 going in to the 4th, but luckily that’s all.

Beer 2: by Pompeii IPA Toppling Goliath

One day, just as our losing streak will end, so too will my love of the hazy IPA shall end. For now though here in the 4th we’ll have to settle with Carson Kelly end our current game’s run drought as his double brings home C Walk all the way from first. Good vibes are good yo. 1-1 tie going to the bottom of the 4th.

Another solid frame by Peacock in the 4th, with some threat from the Gigantes, but overall I can’t complain too much with how the pitching and D has been thus far. Them bats though……

Them bats still are struggling mightily in the 5th and we’re quickly moving on with the tie.

Giants look to immediately threaten that tie in the bottom of the 5th with a Solano lead-off double. Crawford follows that but if bad news up with a two run blast deep to left-center. F#^£!! 1-3 Giants.

Belt follows that up with the second double of the inning and Peacock’s night….looks to be continuing. Huh, thought that mound visit would see him off, nope. Doesn’t end up mattering since we get out of the inning without further incident. Woot.

Beer 3: Carina Hazy Double IPA by Unsung Brewing Co

Very cool. This beer is a part of a series called the Nebuloid Series. Each beer represents a nebula, which in this case is the Carina Nebula located 8,250 light years away from us. The more you know…..

We all know how good Kelly is this year, and he proves it once more with a solo shot in the top of the 6th to bring this game within 1 run. Regrettably he appears to be the only offense the team brought to SF. I’ll take what I can get though. 2-3 Giants.

Mantiply takes over for Peacock here in the 6th, and despite the bullpen’s many issues he aquits himself quite well, and his last two outings in relief he’s put up two goose eggs. Maybe he’s the chosen one to take over from Soria?

Dbacks show a bit of life in the top of the 7th with Peralta and Rojas getting aboard, and with 2outs KMarte gets to the plate to show his worth.

Like the rest is the offense he sputters when it matters most and we head in to the 7th inning stretch still down by 1run.

No action in the bottom of the 7th and the Giants crush our 2-on-1-out-hopes with an inning ending double play. This is why I drink folks.

Still 2-3 Giants going into the bottom of the 8th.

Beer 4: Cougar Man Dbl IPA by The Brewing Projekt

Yes, that spelling above is correct and the beer is good, but not great.
Crichton is also channeling his inner not-greatness, though I’m pretty sure this beer could pitch better than he does.
I say that as our game goes from close to not so close as a pathetic series of bad pitches and wild pitches leads to a Duggar single effortlessly driving in SF’s 4th run. Consecutive road loss #20 looking inevitable at this point…2-4 Giants

Yastrzemski further adds to my melancholy with a ground rule double and Crawford’s sac fly adds to that pain to cap off the 8th making it 2-5 Giants.

Typical hopelessness in the 9th to close out the game and we’ve reach a new Dback low of 20 road losses in a row. Bleh.

The Comment of the Night was a three-handed work, featuring contributions from Dschumac, Jack Sommers and kilnborn. If only such outstanding teamwork was available on the field. Did make it a little difficult to screen-cap, but with the aid of full-screen and some judicious shrinking of comments, here you go.

There will be a game tomorrow, as the D-backs go for the record. I do not, at this point, know who will be starting. And it probably won’t matter much.
