The Arizona Diamondbacks added another pitcher to their ranks on Friday, claiming righty Brett de Geus off of waivers from the Texas Rangers.
With the addition, the D-backs’ 40-man roster is filled out.
The pitcher was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Wednesday. In 19 games this season (26.2 innings pitched), de Geus posted an 8.44 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP. He’s recorded 26 strikeouts, while walking 13.
In his final game with the Rangers, de Geus allowed three earned runs off three hits and a walk in 1.1 innings pitched. He also recorded a two strikeouts in the 13-6 loss to the Oakland Athletics.
The righty joins a banged up reliever room, with Taylor Clarke (strained right Teres Major) and J.B. Bukauskas (right elbow flexor strain) on the 10-day injured list. Seth Frankoff was transferred to the 60-day IL last week with forearm soreness.
The D-backs have won just one game over the past 20 outings.
They will look to snap an MLB record 23-game road losing streak Friday night against the San Diego Padres.
