D-backs’ Ketel Marte ‘day-to-day’ with hamstring injury, will not land on IL

June 18, 2022 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte is day-to-day with a left hamstring injury, manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday.

Marte is not in the lineup for Arizona’s series opener against the Minnesota Twins Friday, as Jake Hager is starting at second base.

Marte told Lovullo that he felt tightness in his hamstring after he came around to score in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

“He’s had the left hamstring spasm,” Lovullo said Friday. “He’s continuing to be examined over these past 24-48 hours, was trying to get a gauge as to how he’s feeling. Obviously want to get him back on the field as soon as possible. We gotta be a little cautious through this whole process.”

The manager said Marte will not land on the injured list, but he was set for an MRI Friday to gain further information.

Marte spent multiple stints on the IL with hamstring injuries last season which held him to 90 games played.

Lovullo said Marte told him his current hamstring issue is not as impacting as his 2021 injuries.

“Last year, there was a fairly similar situation and we had him play through it,” Lovullo said. “So I think we have a baseline as to what we will allow him to play through and not allowed to play through this time.”

Lovullo told reporters Marte wanted to play Friday.

Marte is batting .323 over the last 30 days, which ranks No. 23 in the majors.

Arizona’s matchup against Minnesota begins at 6:40 p.m. at Chase Field. Catch the game on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
