PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced a couple of roster moves ahead of Tuesday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals at Chase Field.
The D-backs reinstated rookie catcher Jose Herrera off the injured list and returned catcher Grayson Greiner to Triple-A Reno following Monday night’s 9-5 comeback win over KC.
Greiner went 1-for-3 with a walk in just his second game as a Diamondback on Monday.
His single against former D-backs starter Zack Greinke also marked the catcher’s first in an Arizona uniform.
Herrera had been on the IL since May 19 due to COVID-19, but Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said pregame Monday that the rookie was “just getting ready to come out of it.”
The 25-year-old switch-hitter has played in 18 games and made 46 plate appearances in his first season in the big leagues.
In that span, Herrera is slashing .125/.222/.150 with one double, two RBIs and five walks.
The D-backs go for the two-game series sweep over the Royals at 6:40 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
Arizona RHP Zac Gallen (3-0, 1.14 ERA) is scheduled to start against Kansas City RHP Jonathan Heasley (0-2, 4.32).
