D-backs to make it up to fans after Opening Day concessions debacle

April 11, 2021 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM Leave a Comment

The Arizona Diamondbacks didn’t have quite the home opener they had hoped for on Friday night at Chase Field.

Not only did the D-backs lose to the Cincinnati Reds 6-5 in 10 innings, there were also lengthy lines and even longer wait times for concessions in addition to technical issues with the contactless payment systems.

On Saturday, Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall took to Twitter to announce that the team would be making it up to those fans who were negatively impacted.

“We appreciate all fans who attended our game last night and realize many experienced inconveniences and we have begun to address and make corrections,” he said via the team’s Twitter.

“We have decided that in the coming days, all single-game ticket buyers will receive information regarding a free ticket to an upcoming game as a token of our appreciation and we’re determining a meaningful offer for our dedicated season-ticket holders who already have tickets. We are grateful for the continued support of our fans and are committed to immediate improvements.”

There were a total of 19,385 in attendance for the first baseball game at Chase Field to host fans since September 2019.

That number was increased from the original 12,000 limit after Gov. Doug Ducey lifted COVID-19 mitigation requirements last month.

The D-backs host the Reds in Game 2 of the three-game series on Saturday night at Chase Field, with a pitching matchup of Jeff Hoffman vs. Riley Smith, who will be making his MLB debut.

First pitch is set for 5:10 p.m. Catch all the action on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
