D-backs Triple-A affiliate Reno Aces involved in benches-clearing brawl

September 5, 2021 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM

The Arizona Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate Reno Aces saw a benches-clearing kerfuffle on Friday night against the Tacoma Rainiers.

It began when D-backs prospect Henry Ramos blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Aces an 11-2 lead.

While he was rounding second base, Ramos could be seen jawing at some Rainiers player and when he finally reached second base, Rainiers shortstop Donovan Walton began to follow Ramos to third base.

Ramos then turned around and confronted Walton by throwing his helmet at him and throwing a punch.

Rainiers catcher Jose Godoy then hoped into the meele by throwing his glove at Ramos and both benches quickly spilled onto the field.

Ramos, Walton and Godoy were all ejected from the game, along with Rainiers pitcher Brian Schlitter and Aces pitcher Chester Pimentel.

Although Ramos did not finish rounding the bases, the two-run homer counted. The Aces would add two more runs in the inning to finish off the win, 13-2.

Ramos is a 30-year-old prospect out of Puerto Rico. He is batting .373 with 62 runs, 57 RBIs and 12 home runs on the season in 74 games.

He has yet to debut in the majors.

The Rainiers are the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

They now trail the Aces by 2.0 games for first place in the Triple-A West standings.
