Zac Gallen tossed a complete game shutout, and Arizona cruised to a win in the first game of the double-header
It may have been only a seven-inning game, but Zac Gallen looked very impressive. Indeed, he flirted with a no-hitter, not allowing a hit until the sixth inning. Freddie Freeman singled with one out, to put runners on the corners, but a double-play killed the threat. That was also their first at-bat with runners in scoring position. Gallen walked two and struck out five, needing only 83 pitches. Home-runs by Stephen Vogt in the second and Kole Calhoun in the third, staked Arizona to an early 3-0 lead. Two more were added in the fifth, on RBI singles from Eduardo Escobar and Josh VanMeter. Calhoun and Nick Ahmed each had two-hit games.
