Can the D-backs reach a season high win streak of THREE?
Maybe – just maybe – the table has turned for the Diamondbacks. Last night, they won back to back games for the first time since April 14, when they won the final two contests at Chase Field against the Cardinals. So it’s been three and a half weeks. But that’s actually less than the worst comparable streak in 2023. Last year, the longest the team went between consecutive victories was 25 days: July 19 through to August 13, which of course included the notorious nine-game losing streak to open August. Let’s just hope that this now-ended run proves to be the longest of the 2024 campaign – rather than the longest of the 2024 campaign so far…
A win tonight would also give Arizona their first three-game winning streak of the year. Over the first 38 games of last year, the D-backs had already had a four-game and a trio of three-game streaks, so some catching up to do there. Whether or not they do is largely in the hands of Jordan Montgomery, who will be seeking to bounce back from an implosion in his last start. After a 1-2-3 first inning, he gave up five runs in the second, and was gone after the third. He’ll need to do significantly better tonight. But if Corbin Carroll is as “back” as last night seems to suggest, that’s going to be a huge boost for the Diamondbacks, both psychologically and in the box-score.
