The morning after the… gestures vaguely off-screen

Here’s to hoping the team can put last night behind them. Losing a game to the 2025 Rockies is bad enough, especially away from Coors Field. But losing a series to them? Unconscionable. At least I am more confident in Merrill Kelly than Zac Gallen. Be nice if Kelly could deliver a quality start, since I have faith in the team’s offense to put up a number on the Rockies’ pitching again. We have outscored them by six runs this series, which is actually in line with the Rockies run differential (-3.18 runs per game). Had those runs been divided almost any other way, we’d be looking at a sweep. But as the saying goes, if wishes were horses…
Providing Kelly doesn’t melt down, the bullpen should be okay. despite using five arms. Nelson is likely off the board, since all signs suggest he will be starting on Tuesday. But we also have Christian Montes De Oca, not shown on the chart because he has yet to appear in a game. He, Scott McGough and Shelby Miller did not appear yesterday, while Juan Morillo and Ryan Thompson could potentially go again too. Of course, whether anyone would want to see Thompson after his role in last night’s fiasco, is a different matter. The less we see of the bullpen in general, the better. Their ERA is now 5.41, ahead only of the Nationals in the NL.
No Jordan Lawlar in the line-up today. When called up on the 12th, Mike Hazen said they expected the team’s top prospect to get three or four starts a week, but so far, Lawlar has made only two. Admittedly, he hasn’t forced the issue. Jordan is 0-for-9 with five strikeouts, looked shaky in the field, and I even heard rumbling he might be tipping pitches. Dunno how true that is. But the fan backlash is in full effect. Anyway, will not be around for the bulk of this one, since we are off to a movie matinee. We will be watching people die horribly in the most brutal and painful ways imaginable. Any parallels to recent Diamondbacks’ games are, I’m sure, purely coincidental.
