The Blaze is back in town…

Your daily roster move… 🙁
The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.
- Recalled from Triple-A Reno:: INF Blaze Alexander
- Placed on the 10-Day Injured List: INF Ildemaro Vargas (fractured fifth metatarsal in right foot)
And there we go. There was a while where the position side of the roster seemed to be dodging the fire and brimstone raining down on the D-backs from the baseball gods. Just a week ago, that side of the roster had nobody on the injured list. But since then, we have lost Gabriel Moreno (right hand), Corbin Carroll (left wrist fracture) and now Vargas with a broken foot. And that’s not counting Eugenio Suarez whose hand still awaits an MRI, or Josh Naylor, who tweaked his back on a swing. If either of them end up having to go on the IL as well, then the team’s depth is going to be sorely tested. At least Naylor is back in the lineup today – though ask Moreno how that worked out for him.
Never mind the active roster, the 40-man one is now looking perilously thin for the D-backs. Generally you would hope to have fourteen “spare” players available there, mostly playing down in Triple-A. The D-backs? Here are their players not on the active roster, or the MLB 15- or 60-day IL (the latter would require a list entirely of its own, of course!)
- Jeff Brigham (placed on minor league IL, June 17)
- Yilber Diaz
- Tommy Henry (placed on minor league IL, June 12)
- Drey Jameson (sent on a rehab assignment to the ACL Dbacks, June 24)
- Bryce Jarvis
- Kyle Nelson
- Andrew Saalfrank
- Adrian del Castillo (placed on minor league IL, June 20)
- Jordan Lawlar (hasn’t played since June 19, hamstring issue)
- Jorge Barrosa
That’s just five players who should be considered truly active – with Barrosa the sole position player among them. If you look at the Aces roster, you will see a lot of unfamiliar names. There can’t be a lot of player development going on in Reno right now. It must be more about day-to-day survival.
Final game of the series in Chicago, and the D-backs have another chance to go for a sweep. They have already clinched their fourth series win in the last five, and are 10-4 since the start of the last home-stand. I’d say they are taking care of business so far: a win this afternoon would put them at 5-1 against the worst team in each league. To be honest, that’s what I would hope they’d have done. It’s important for them to take advantage of this softer section in the schedule, because things will certainly get a lot tougher than the Rockies, White Sox and Marlins.
Finally, in regard to yesterday’s incident, there’s this.
The White Sox plan to have a message for Ketel Marte placed on their outfield video boards before his first at-bat in today’s game
