Into the second half we go!

Roster moves
The Arizona Diamondbacks made the following roster moves. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.
- Selected from Triple-A Reno: RHP John Curtiss (No. 46)
- Designated for assignment: RHP Tayler Scott
Big plus from the writer’s point of view. Nothing personal against Mr. Scott, but it’ll be nice not having to remember it’s TaylEr and not the far more normal TaylOr going forward. Let’s just the hope the D-backs don’t re-sign Peter Strzelecki to replace him. Scott is now free to continue his nomadic baseball career: the Diamondbacks are already the eighth team for whom he has appeared at the major-league level. Quite impressive, considering he debuted in 2019, and then spent two full seasons pitching in Japan. So this is only Taylor’s fifth season in MLB. He appeared 79 times for Houston, but just in single-digit games for each of the seven other franchises.
Mind you, I now have to remember that it’s Curtis with TWO s’s, rather than the one which is more customary. He has round about the same amount of major league experience at Scott: 108.2 innings, compared to 140.1, though Curtiss’s results have been rather better, with an ERA+ of 106, as opposed to 79. The numbers in Reno for John have not been pretty: a 6.34 ERA over 32.2 innings, with a 28:9 K:BB ratio. He hasn’t been helped by having allowed seven home-runs in that time. However, the Aces team ERA is 5.70 so he’s not that much worse. Kinda sad that we are apparently reduced to saying this about new bullpen arms: “He’s not that much worse than the average Triple-A pitcher”…
And having forgotten that this is an afternoon game at Chase Field, rather than the usual 5:10 pm first pitch, I’ll get this up!
