The first coaching hire of the off season for the D-backs has been announced
The Arizona Diamondbacks hired Joe Mather as hitting coach.
- Served as the Cincinnati Reds’ assistant hitting coach and director of hitting from 2020-21.
- Spent 5 seasons in the D-backs’ organization (2015-19), most recently serving as the Minor League field/hitting coordinator in 2019.
- Managed Rookie Advanced Missoula from 2015-16, winning the Pioneer League championship in his first season at the helm…also served as a coach at Double-A Jackson in 2017 and manager at Single-A Adv. Visalia in 2018.
- Was a manager/coach for the following members of Arizona’s 40-man roster: Miguel Aguilar (2018), Taylor Clarke (2017), Drew Ellis (2018), Kevin Ginkel (2018), Matt Peacock (2018), Pavin Smith (2018), Riley Smith (2018) and Daulton Varsho (2018).
- Is a 2001 graduate of Mountain Pointe High School in Ahwatukee, Ariz.…played in 229 Major League games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2008, ’10), Atlanta Braves (2011) and Chicago Cubs (2012).
