Jeff Passan is reporting that Eugenio Suarez has been dealt to the Seattle Mariners. As yet, there is no information on the return, but we expect to hear shortly on what the Diamondbacks will get in return. Suarez had a great season for Arizona, hitting 36 home-runs and with an OPS of .896. He was always expected to be the best hitter on the move at the trade deadline.
The move will also reunite Suarez with teammate Josh Naylor, who was dealt to the Mariners last week.
Update: Daniel Kramer of mlb.com reports, “Tyler Locklear and two pitching prospects are going back to Arizona in the Eugenio Suárez trade, according to a source.”
Locklear is a first base prospect who made his MLB debut in June last year. This season the 24-year-old has been playing for Tacoma, and has put up a .942 OPS across 98 games there. He would fill a long-term need for the Diamondbacks.
Update #2: Kramer now fills in the pitching prospects. Arizona will also get RHP Hunter Cranton (the Mariners’ No. 16 prospect), and RHP Juan Burgos (No. 17).
