The 2025 draft takes place today and tomorrow
While far from the only one, the June draft is always the biggest pipeline by which teams acquire players for their minor-league systems. For a team like the Diamondbacks, with limited finances, it’s particularly important to have that stream of players who can form the core of their roster. This year the D-backs have one of the lower picks, but it will still give them the chance to select players who will have an impact on the franchise in years to come. I recommend you read through the sterling previews which James and Preston have written for your information over the past few weeks – the stream below collates all these and will be the hub for all our coverage today and tomorrow.
How to watch
As is now standard, the MLB draft takes place as part of the All-Star Game, so will happen in Atlanta. However, this year, it has been compressed from three days into two. The first three rounds (and supplementary picks) take place today, with the remaining seventeen rounds happening on Monday. Things kick off at 3 pm Arizona time. The first 43 picks, through the end of Competitive Balance Round A, will be shown on both the MLB Network and ESPN, with everything else until the end of the third round being on the MLB Network. That’s 105 picks in all, with the D-backs having the selections in slots #18 (1st round), #29 (free-agent comp), and #92 (third round). They lost their second round pick for signing Corbin Burnes.
Day two will cover rounds #4-20, for a grand total of 615 picks. Arizona will have pick #123, and every thirtieth pick thereafter. There won’t be any broadcast coverage of these round, but it can be followed online, through MLB.com. You’ll need to get up early though, because that day’s coverage begins at 8:30 am, Arizona time. We’ll have a thread going up for each day, with updates and information on the next generation of Diamondbacks, so stay tuned…
