It would appear the D-backs’ Geraldo Perdomo is anti-Dodgers and pro-Padres in NLDS

October 10, 2024 by ArizonaSports.com - 98.7 FM

If we’re going by social media activity, Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo is rooting for the San Diego Padres to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.

If we’re going out on a slightly further limb, Perdomo has a strong distaste for the Dodgers.

Why are we making such strong assumptions about an Arizona player who appears to be choosing between these two NL West playoff teams as his D-backs sit at home?

Because Perdomo via his Instagram story reposted, well, this language on top of fellow Dominican product Fernando Tatis Jr. home run video.

We are assuming that the swearing emoji is not covering up an exclamation for the Padres to flank, folk, funk or fork LA.

It’s probably a more explicit word, though you could argue some of those words above might also describe Tatis’ massive home run and standup observation of the sailing ball on Tuesday.

Padres and Dodgers NLDS series has included heated moments

The heat coming from Perdomo outside of the two teams follows plenty of conflict within the NLDS series.

Game 2 was delayed for 12 minutes after rowdy fans tossed baseballs in the direction of San Diego left fielder Jurickson Profar, and then threw trash onto the outfield. Profar had robbed Dodgers star Mookie Betts of a home run in the first inning, reaching into the stands behind the low left-field wall. He trolled the fans by staring at them and then hopping up and down several times before throwing the ball to the infield.

Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty and Padres third baseman Manny Machado directed expletives at each other a handful of times, including after Flaherty hit Tatis with a pitch and after he struck out Machado.

And then there was Dodgers manager Dave Roberts taking offense at a ball that Padres third baseman Manny Machado threw into the Dodgers dugout that he thought was an intentional slight.

How’d we get here?

San Diego won the top Wild Card spot after falling short of the division chase and then won two games over the Atlanta Braves to get out of the Wild Card round.

They lost the NLDS opener against Los Angeles, 7-5, but won decisively in the second game before pulling out a 6-5 victory on Tuesday.

The Dodgers visit San Diego on Wednesday night for Game 4 of the series and are at risk of losing in the NLDS for the third straight season after Perdomo’s D-backs blew past them last year.
