Dbacks Had A Not So Great Weekend on Saturday Aside From That
My apologies for not having this up as two seperate recaps once again. Covering the Dbacks/Dodgers game on Saturday, and covering the draft on Sunday took up much more of my time than I thought it would.
Pitching Performance:
Matt Tabor on Sunday for AA Amarillo, 7.0 IP, 0H, 2BB 3 K
Hitting Performance
Osvaldo Abreu had an excellent weekend at the plate for AA Amarillo, going 5-8 with two doubles,
Las Vegas Aviators 7 Reno Aces 3 F/10
Reno had a 2-0 lead to start with, which became a 2-1 lead after the fifth. Las Vegas manage to tie it up in the top of the ninth, and sending this game into extra innings, and proceeded to scored five runs in the top of the tenth. The Aces did score a run in the bottom of the inning but came up short.
Tyler Gilbert was excellent in his start, going six innings and allowing one run on four hits and a walk, striking out four. The lone run came via long ball, and was one of the few mistake pitches Gilbert made all night. Jon Duplantier faced one batter and allowed a hit, before being taken out due to an injury. Brandyn Sittinger relieved Duplantier and pitched a scoreless inning, allowing a pair of walks. Junior Garcia relieved sittinger for the eighth inning, and pitched a scoreless inning allowing a hit while striking out a pair of batters. Chester Pimentel blew the save in the ninth, allowing a run on a pair of hits and a walk, while striking out a batter. Luis Castillo pitched the top of the tenth, and it didn’t go well. Five runs (four earned) on three hits and a walk, along with an errant pickoff throw, with the inning capped off with a two out grand slam.
Jake McCarthy was 1-5 with a triple, the only extra base hit for Reno. Drew Ellis and Seth Beer were 1 for 4 and 1 for 5 with a run batted in and a run scored respectively. Henry Ramos reached base three times, going 2 for 3 with a walk.
Hillsboro Hops 6 Tri-City Dust Devils 8
Kenny Hernandez got the start, went three innings, and allowed five runs (four earned) on on seven hits and three walks, with four strikeouts. Justin Vernia pitched three innings, and allowed three runs on six hits, with three strikeouts. Kai-Wei Lin pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just a hit and a walk.
After pulling ahead 3-0 in the top of the second inning, the Hops quickly allowed three runs to cross the plate in the bottom of the inning to have the game tied back up, and then were trailing the rest of the game after that. Spencer Brickhouse lead the way offensively, going 3-4 with a three run homerun. Dominic Canzone and Tristen English were both 2-4 with a double and a walk, and both were caught stealing. Jorge Barrosa was 1-4 with a double and a walk.
Visalia Rawhide 1 Inland Empire 66ers 7
Sheng-Ping Chen was the only real offense in the game for Visalia, going 2-4 with a homerun in the first inning, Alexander Hernandez and Dairon Cuevas had the only other hits in the game. Hernandez went 1-2, reaching a second time via a walk. Danny Oriente and Glenallen Hill Jr also reached via walk, despite going hitless. Overall the offense was very anemic in this one.
Junior Mieses went five innings and allowed seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five. Mieses also threw a wild pitch and had a balk during the game. Jose Alcantara struck out three in three scoreless innings of work.
Amarillo Sod Poodles 6 San Antonio Missions 0
This game was rained out on Saturday, but played on Sunday as a part of a doubleheader, so I am just throwing it here in the middle. Matt Tabor pitched seven no hit innings, with just a pair of walks, but oddly only three strikeouts. Instead Tabor, put his teammates to work, with six ground outs and eight flyouts. The Sod Poodles scored a pair of runs in the second after Dominic Miroglio walked, Osvaldo Abreu doubled putting runners on second and third for Mikey Reynolds, who followed up with another double, scoring both runners. JanCarlos Cintron walked, Stone Garrett doubled scoring Cintron, and Renae Martinez followed up with another double, scoring Garrett. Stone Garrett knocked in Abrea and Reynolds again in the top of the sixth with a single, and stole a base.
Osvaldo Abreu was 4-4 with a double
Stone Garrett 2-4 with a double and a stolen base
Renae Martinez 2-3 with a double and a walk
Dominic Fletcher was hitless, but had an outfield assist.
Las Vegas Aviators 16 Reno Aces 5
Las Vegas scored four runs off Zach Lee in the first inning, another run in the third, and three more in the fourth inning after Reno clawed back with a Run. Lee went four innings with 8 earned runs allowed on 9 hits and a walk. Three of those hits left the yard, but surprisingly none were a grand slam. Jeremy Rhoades was solid in a scoreless inning of work in the fifth. Cameron Gann however, wasn’t in his 2⁄3 of an inning, allowing five runs on three hits and three walks. Keury Mella did inherit three baserunners, allowing two to score, but pitched 1 1⁄3 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Carlos Navos was lit up for three runs on three hits and a walk in his inning of work in the eighth. Kevin McCanna pitched a scoreless inning in the ninth.
Drew Ellis and Seth Beer both homered and had two hit games, with Ellis going 2-5 with a double and a solo homerun, and Beer going 2-4 with homerun and a walk.
Amarillo Sod Poodles 1 San Antonio Missions 6
Bryce Jarvis did not have a great start, unlike Tabor in the first game of this double header. Jarvis gave up a pair of homeruns in his 4 2⁄3 innings, with six earned runs allowed on five hits, a wild pitch, and two walks, while striking out four. Matt Brill pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to follow, though he walked a pair of batters, hit a batter, and threw a wild pitch.
The lone run for Amarillo came in the top of the sixth, after Jancarlos Cintron walked, stole second, and scored on a Luis Alejandro Basabe single.
Hillsboro Hops 3 Tri-City Dust Devils 4
Drey Jameson went six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk, while striking out five. Justin Lewis pitched 2⁄3 of a scoreless inning, with a hit and a walk allowed. Nick Snyder got the final out of the inning without either of his inherited runners scoring, but was only able to get an out in the eight, and left with two on and one out. Mailon Arroyo would allow both inherited runners to score, thanks to a hit and a wild pitch, and would strike out one in 2⁄3 of a “scoreless” inning.
Tristin English went 1-2 with a two run homerun, and was hit by pitch. Eduardo Diaz was 1-3 with a solo homerun. Jorge Barrosa was 1-3 with a double and was also hit by pitch.
Visalia Rawhide 8 Inland Empire 66ers 3
Liam Norris got the start, and went four innings, allowing three runs (although only one was earned) on three hits, two walks, and a pair of wild pitches, but struck out six. Marcos Tineo was excellent in his three scoreless innings of work that followed. Tineo allowed just a hit while striking out six batters. Liu Fuenmayor skirted around trouble in his scoreless inning, with a pair of hits and a wild pitch, but got of the jam unscathed while striking out a pair of batters. Bobby Ay struck out a pair of batters in a scoreless and hitless ninth, while working around a one out error by first baseman Manuel Garcia.
The Rawhide got a run on the board in the first after Glenallen Hill Jr singled, stole second, and advanced to third and scored on a couple of ground outs. They added three more runs after Lyle Lin doubled and Sheng-Ping Chen and Ronny Simon hit back to back homers. Three more runs crossed the plate in the sixth after Manuel Garcia doubled, Danny Oriente was hit by pitch, and Jeferson Espinal walked to the load the bases for Alexander Hernandez. Hernandez singled, scoring Garcia. Lyle Lin would ground out next, but Oriente and Espinal were able to score thanks to a throwing error during the play. Glenallen Hill Jr added a solo homer in the eighth inning.
