More of the Same… Tigers 12, Dbacks 2

Another day, another game where Pfaadt gives up a bunch of homers and the offense looks flat. What else is new?

Leading into all of the fanfare that has become the MLB trade deadline, the 2025 Arizona Diamondbacks continued to disappoint, look flat, and further cement themselves as Bonafide sellers on Tuesday afternoon in Detroit. They have now fallen to a season-worst 6 games under .500 and hope is lost.

Brandon Pfaadt actually appeared to have some good stuff working early in this one as he pitched a scoreless 3 innings to start the contest. However things unraveled quickly in the usual way for Pfaadt in the 4th and 5th innings as he continues to be bit by the long ball giving up 3 home runs in the 5th inning alone. It really appears as though Pfaadt may be headed more towards a career as a backend of the rotation starter as he seemingly is unable to avoid the long ball with consistency. He can go a game or 2 and look sharp, and then in the subsequent game just get obliterated by the long ball. A concerning career development for Pfaadt.

On the offensive side, not much appears to have changed Tuesday. We had some hope early as Corbin Carroll got the game started off with a bang with a leadoff triple and was driven in by Ketel the next batter giving the team a quick 1-0 lead. The second inning also gave us some optimism as James McCann walked and was driven in by our fearless leader Geraldo Perdomo. Anytime you chase the opposing starter in the 2nd inning of a game, you would think you were in a pretty good spot right? The Dbacks were able to chase Casey Mize from this game after running his pitch count up to 59 in just 1.2 innings and things were really looking up for this team. Unfortunately as we have so often seen, a mid level nobody comes into the game and completely shuts this offense down. The offense would go silent the rest of the game and in addition they proceeded to go down 1,2,3 in the 3rd, 4th, 5th innings. They have scored just 4 runs in the teams past 5 games.

I feel as though for the Dbacks lately, it is just more and more of the same. You could prewrite a recap before the game even starts and be pretty close to the finished product at this point. The Dbacks squandered more opportunities with runners on base again blah blah blah…. Because of this, Im not going to lie, this team has become rather difficult to watch. It was one thing earlier in the season when it almost felt like they were in every single game until they weren’t and the frustration that went along with that. But this feels worse for me as it feels as though this team is in hardly any games as of late and is looking rather non-competitive. Im not sure if this is just a product of all of the trade deadline talk, but also you would expect for a bunch of professionals to have a slightly thicker skin wouldn’t you? I mean a bad game here or there, sure. But to completely lose all focus and be completely noncompetitive because of some rumors on social media? We should be better than that.
