The Arizona Diamondbacks are reportedly calling up shortstop Geraldo Perdomo to join their 26-man roster.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the move is not expected to be permanent as shortstop Nick Ahmed could be heading to the D-backs injured list.
Perdomo is Arizona’s third-ranked minor league prospect, according to MLB’s prospect rankings.
The 21-year-old shortstop appeared in 12 Cactus League games for Arizona this spring, posting a .222 batting average with two hits and four RBIs.
The D-backs signed Perdomo during the 2016-17 international period for $70,000.
In his three years of minor league action for Arizona, Perdomo has racked up 8 home runs, 82 RBIs and hit for a .278 batting average.
As for Ahmed, he continues to be sidelined due to inflammation in his right knee.
The 31-year-old was injected with two shots earlier in the week.
“I’m feeling a little bit better. Unfortunately the injections I got didn’t help as quickly as I was hoping they would,” Ahmed said. “Getting a little bit of progress each day, but not to the point where it’s just great to kind of let it go and play every single day now.”
