The RHP will likely be out until mid-2026
Diamondbacks Manager Torey Lovullo informed the media today that RHP Corbin Burnes will undergo Ulnar Collateral Ligament Reconstruction surgery i.e. Tommy John surgery, and will likely be on the injured list until the middle of the next season Our good friend Jack Sommers was among the members of the media to report on the story.
I had reached out and asked my source in the know of the likelihood of Burnes needing TJ surgery earlier in the week and his immediate answer of “Probably” made this the least surprising sports news of the day in my opinion. Obviously, this will hurt the Dbacks postseason chances, even more so since Burnes has been an effective pitcher when he’s been healthy. Seven out of his eleven starts were ‘quality starts’ this season as indicated by his 2.66 ERA, 156 ERA+ and 65 ERA-.
General Manager Mike Hazen will have some tough decisions to make as we get closer to the deadline, especially if the team is just barely in the wildcard race.
