Corbin Carroll is in a new club.
The Old Club. There are 47 players in the 30 homers – 30 stolen bases (in a single season) club, but none are Diamondbacks. The Diamondback who came closest was Chris Young (in 2007 and 2010). Baseball Reference informed me that, “Players are never said to be in the 20-20 club or 25-25 club….” That changes today.
The New Club. The new club only includes the latest five seasons (2019 to 2023). It requires 25 homers and 25 stolen bases in a single season. There are 15 players in the 25-25 club. Two things are worth noting:
- Corbin Carroll is in the 25-25 club with 25 homers and 54 stolen bases in his age 22 season.
- There are zero Dodgers in the 25-25 club.
Five players in the 25-25 club qualified more than once in the last five seasons.
- Ronald Acuña Jr. qualified in his age 21 and age 25 seasons.
- Julio Rodríguez qualified in his age 21 and age 22 seasons.
- Fernando Tatis Jr. qualified in his age 22 and age 24 seasons.
- Kyle Tucker qualified in his age 25 and age 26 seasons
- Trea Turner qualified in his age 28 and age 30 seasons.
My view is that there is a very good chance that Corbin Carroll will eventually have a second 25-25 season.
This season, Elly De La Cruz (Reds) is likely to join the new club. In the first month of the season (through 28 April), he had 7 homers and 18 stolen bases. At that pace, by July he will be in the club, with some extra stolen bases.
In the preseason, Wick Terrell, SB Nation predicted that Elly De La Cruz would create a 30-80 club. His prediction looks on-target.
Possible Returning Diamondbacks.
Alek Thomas and Paul Sewald may return to the team during this series. Either one returning would be good news with positive impact!

The Pitching Matchups.
Tuesday 3:40 PM Arizona time, Zac Gallen (122 ERA+) vs Frankie Montas (105 ERA+).
On 26 April, Zac Gallen left the game with hamstring spasms/tightness. He skipped his next start in the rotation. My view is that the extra rest will leave him invigorated and pitching at his best.
On 22 April, a comeback hit Frankie Montas’s forearm. This game will be his first game back.
This matchup is advantage Diamondbacks.
Wednesday, 3:40 PM Arizona Time, Jordan Montgomery (74 ERA+) vs Graham Ashcraft (118 ERA+).
Jordan Montgomery is the Diamondbacks’ pitch-to-contact starter, as defined by low hits allowed per-ball-in-play, and low strikeouts per-batter-faced. For more details, see Jordan Montgomery and Pitch-To-Contact, scheduled to post Tuesday.
In his latest start (which was against the Padres), Graham Ashcraft allowed zero earned runs in 6 innings.
This pitching matchup is advantage Reds.
Thursday 10:10 AM Arizona Time, Slade Cecconi (63 ERA+) vs Hunter Greene (118 ERA+).
Cecconi. In his latest start (which was against the Padres), Slade Cecconi allowed 6 earned runs in 4.1 innings. That sounds like a disaster, but he pitched better than it seems. Three home runs (one off Bowman) caused 4 of the 6 earned runs. Except for that, he pitched well enough that he normally would give the Diamondbacks batters chances to win the game.
In his latest start (which was against the Rangers), Hunter Greene allowed zero earned runs in 5.2 innings. In his last 46 outs, he did not allow any earned runs.
This pitching matchup is advantage Reds.
