There is no rain, no baseball, but there is news….
Steve Gilbert lays out the top 5 with this in mind; “The rules are the player had to have some real history with the D-backs, and he gets credit for his entire career, not just his time in Arizona. Also, he has to be retired — so, no Paul Goldschmidt or Zack Greinke.”
Among the external candidates, Diamondbacks assistant general manager Jared Porter seems like a good fit for what the Cubs will need to do. He and fellow Arizona AGM Amiel Sawdaye were finalists for the GM job in Anaheim and both received a mention in Sahadev Sharma’s piece for The Athletic about how Hoyer can move forward as the decision-maker, but Porter was in heavier rotation for pretty obvious reasons.
CBS Sports lays out the top 5 and blurb 6 through 10.
Washington will be the first big league organization outside of Arizona for the 30-year-old Tomas, who came to the Major Leagues amid considerable fanfare after defecting from Cuba in 2014. Tomas generated widescale interest and huge expectations that led to a hefty six-year, $68.5MM deal — a contract that even included an opt-out clause after the fourth season.
Official: Robinson Cano tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug — Stanozolol — and is suspended for the entire 2021 season.
