Had to sleep on the couch as to not disturb my fiance which is why Snake Bytes is late. That and I kinda feel how the recapper did last night.
Arizona Diamondbacks 3, Los Angeles Dodgers 9
[D’backs.com] D-backs lose 16th straight; Kelly breaks wrist – It was the 16th straight loss for the reeling D-backs, who also will be without the services of Carson Kelly, as the starting catcher suffered a fractured right wrist in the second inning when he was hit by a Buehler fastball. The loss stings, as it is the 30th in the D-backs’ last 32 games, but losing Kelly, who has been one of their best performers this year, really hurts. “He was catching at a very high level,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. “He was a very consistent offensive player for us. It’s nothing you ever want to see or have to talk about postgame, where your starting catcher has a wrist fracture.”
[Arizona Sports] D-backs lose yet another game and player in shellacking to Dodgers – Buehler carried his no-hit bid into the eighth inning, but David Peralta ended his reign of terror with a leadoff single. Nick Ahmed added a second single off Buehler, which brought his brilliant night on the mound to an end after 108 pitches and a season-high 11 strikeouts. Once the D-backs got into the Dodgers’ bullpen, they were finally able to get some runs on the board in this series. Tim Locastro brought in Peralta with a pinch-hit RBI single in the inning. He was then brought home along with Ahmed on a Marte two-run double. The three runs were the only runs the D-backs have scored in 18 innings against Los Angeles in this series.
[AZ Central] Diamondbacks escape being no-hit, but lose Carson Kelly to injury in loss to Dodgers – Kelly’s timetable is not yet clear, but fractures typically cost players at least six to eight weeks. He said he is scheduled to undergo further imaging on Sunday and likely will visit with hand specialist Dr. Don Sheridan.

[ESPN] As strikeout and walk rates drop, MLB umpires prepare to begin checking pitchers for foreign substances Monday – Pitchers will be inspected between innings and/or after they come out of the game unless they’re exhibiting suspicious behavior during an inning. In that case, umpires have the right to inspect a pitcher between batters — but not during an at-bat. Initially, umpires will check the glove, hat and belt of pitchers, but if they suspect a reason to look elsewhere, they’ll have the right to inspect other parts of a player’s uniform.
[MLB Trade Rumors] Diamondbacks Sign Jake Faria, Designate Ildemaro Vargas – The Diamondbacks announced the signing of right-hander Jake Faria. Utilityman Ildemaro Vargas has been designated for assignment to open up a roster spot for Faria. Faria had been pitching for the Angels’ Triple-A affiliate before he was released earlier this week. He’ll now join a reeling D’Backs team that is looking for all the pitching help it can find, though Faria has only a 5.65 ERA over 36 2/3 innings with Triple-A Salt Lake City. The righty does have a 28.05% strikeout rate, but Faria has been hurt by the long ball, with seven homers allowed over those 36 2/3 frames.
[MLB Trade Rumors] Nationals Select Gerardo Parra, Designate Ben Braymer – The Nationals have selected the contract of outfielder Gerardo Parra from Triple-A. Parra will take the active roster spot of infielder Luis Garcia, who was optioned to Triple-A after last night’s game. Left-hander Ben Braymer was designated for assignment to open up 40-man roster space. After playing in Japan with the Yomiuri Giants in 2020, Parra made his return to Washington by signing a minor league deal with the Nats in the offseason. The 34-year-old will now officially return to the big leagues and receive a salute from D.C. fans for his contributions to the Nationals’ 2019 World Series championship club. After originally joining the Nats on a free agent deal in May 2019, Parra’s clubhouse leadership was praised as a key factor in the team’s midseason turnaround, and he quickly became a fan favorite for his choice of “Baby Shark” as his walk-up music.
[MLB Trade Rumors] Marlins Designate Deven Marrero, Select Luis Marte – Marrero had his contract selected back on Wednesday, and the 30-year-old started at third base that day for his lone appearance in this brief stint with Miami. It marked Marrero’s first Major League game since 2019, when he played in five games for the Marlins. (Incidentally, Marrero is 0-for-8 plate appearances in those six games, so Marrero is still looking for his first hit since the 2018 season.) Now a veteran of parts of six MLB seasons, Marrero returned to the Marlins on a minor league contract back in May.
