Caleb Smith was solid once again, but the Diamondbacks could not overcome their shortcomings to pull out an unexpected win in St. Louis.
Diamondbacks News
Waiting for a bit this morning to see if any further progress has been made on an Eduardo Escobar trade has resulted in nothing new to report. So, let’s get to it. There isn’t much to report about the worst team in baseball besides recapping last night’s road loss to the Cardinals.
Caleb Smith turned in yet another solid pitching performance, remaining the only pitcher outside of Zac Gallen that can be considered much of a bright side to the entire pitching staff. It wasn’t enough though. A defensive miscue by Smith throwing to first and then missing his spot on a pitch up and in to Arenado allowed the Cardinals to put two on the board. They tacked on an insurance run against Peacock in the sixth, which proved to be the eventual game winning run.
Caleb Smith Continues to Impress
Caleb Smith was hung with the loss on Tuesday night, but it isn’t like he was getting lit up. The left-hander struck out eight through five innings and allowed only two runs. If he continues to put together outings like that, he’s going to be just fine in this league.
The Diamondbacks’ road woes continue. Even after getting a solid performance by Caleb Smith, the team was still unable to overcome their shortcomings and tally a win, scoring only two runs while leaving 19 runners on base in the game.
