Diamondbacks News:
Diamondbacks record 1st series win in two months
From the article: “It’s what we’ve been working hard for,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “It’s what we’ve been waiting for, and nobody was handing it to us. We had to go out there and earn it. No Major League win is an easy win.”
Corbin Martin sidelined with forearm strain
From the article: For now, it appears that Martin, who underwent Tommy John surgery in July 2019, will not need surgery again, but he is said to be seeking multiple opinions to be sure, according to sources. He was placed on the Reno injured list.
Martin felt tightness in his elbow during and after a start last week for Reno, according to a source. Martin was viewed as the key piece in the trade that sent right-hander Zack Greinke to the Houston Astros in July 2019.
Madison Bumgarner feels good after outing
The blurb: Bumgarner (shoulder) allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk over 2.1 innings for the ACL D-backs on Monday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Bumgarner dropped in on the Arizona Complex League to test out his ailing left shoulder and came out of it without a setback. “That, to me, obviously, is always the most important thing,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. “You can throw away the results.” Lovullo would not divulge the next steps for the left-hander, who has thrown two bullpen sessions and a sim game the past week.
Varsho’s development a second-half focus for the Dbacks
From the article: “I just know that everything is going to fall into place by the end of the year,” he said. “Usually when you look up at the end of the year, things have gone pretty well. I was at the top of the rollercoaster when I was in Triple-A. Getting here, you go through those ups and downs of the season. I’m not really too worried about it.”
Varsho admits his timing has not been right at the plate, an issue that he thinks has had a way of making an otherwise good at-bat look worse than it is. That is, he thinks his approach at the plate has been good, he just thinks he has been missing hittable pitches because of timing.
From the ed: Can we also work on Varsho’s throwing? Especially if he is behind the plate?
