(Sports Illustrated) Three Takeaways From Diamondbacks’ Gritty Series Win vs Mets
The Arizona Diamondbacks cut it quite close, but managed to secure an impressive, gritty series win facing the New York Mets, who entered the series with the best record in baseball.
It looked anything but pretty. Arizona was blown out in game one, and barely hung on to game two before hanging on to another tight win on Thursday.
Arizona had not won a series in Queens since 2017, and sported a 17-30 record against the Mets in that time frame prior to this three-game set.

But the Diamondbacks not only took two of three at Citi Field this week — a series that culminated with a 4-2 win on Thursday (May 1) afternoon — they did it against a New York Mets team that entered the week with the best record in the majors.
“Since I’ve been here in 2019, Citi Field has kind of been a house of horrors for us,” Gallen said. “For us to come in here and get the monkey off our back — especially (since) they’re really hot right now. They’re a really good team.
A baseball season can often be a war of attrition. A 162-game schedule is a grind for any team, and when the cold streaks or the bumps and bruises start to pile up, the teams that can weather the storm most effectively are often the teams that will put themselves in a position to be hoisting a trophy at the end of the year. The Arizona Diamondbacks find themselves in such a position right now.
With Jordan Montgomery out for the season following Tommy John surgery and All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte and co-closer AJ Puk already on the IL, the Diamondbacks were dealt another tough blow on Thursday when they were forced to place their other closer, Justin Martinez, on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
(Sports Illustrated) Diamondbacks Face Phillies After Winning Big Series in New York
Now, the D-backs head to Philadelphia to take on a strong Phillies club in a key three-game set. As things stand ahead of Friday’s matchup, Arizona is only 0.5 games behind the Phillies for a Wild Card position (as of this writing). While monitoring those positions closely at this time of year may still be pointless, taking an early lead in the tiebreaker between the clubs could make a big impact.

Judge finished April with a thunderous .427/.521/.761 slash line. He leads baseball in batting average by 71 points, on-base percentage by 50 points, slugging percentage by 104 points, and OPS by 154 points. And the thing is, April 2025 was only Judge’s fourth-best month over the last calendar year. This is bonkers production:
(MLBTR) Angels To Place Mike Trout On 10-Day Injured List With Bone Bruise
The Angels are placing veteran star Mike Trout on the injured list, Ron Washington told reporters (including Sam Blum of The Athletic) after tonight’s game against the Tigers. Trout is dealing with a bone bruise on his left knee, though Washington emphasized that the injury is not considered “too serious” and that there’s been no structural damage to the 33-year-old’s knee. As noted by ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez, Trout suffered multiple meniscus tears in different parts of his left knee last year that required two separate surgical procedures. That’s the knee which he’s currently suffering from a bone bruise on.
