The D-Backs are now 12-8 vs their division, a mark which stands second only to the Dodgers (17-6).

First, here’s your reminder to Vote 4 Ketel!

Game Recaps

Nelson’s solid start helps D-backs get back on winning track by Steve Gilbert [DBacks.com]

…the Diamondbacks managed to push across a run in the bottom of the seventh without hitting a ball hard. Alek Thomas blooped a single to center, Jose Herrera hit a grounder past second base and Perdomo drove home Thomas with a 68.8 mph blooper to center. Eugenio Suárez added his 26th homer of the year to pad the lead in the eighth.

Diamondbacks escape with win and get back on track against San Francisco Giants by Ben Bliklen [Burn City Sports]

The eighth inning saw a fan interference after Christian Koss hit a deep fly ball into left field, Tim Tawa was unable to come away with the grab after a fan leaped onto and over the railing to interfere. Koss was awarded second base with one out, the fan was ejected, and the D-Backs avoided disaster after getting a couple outs afterwards to end the inning.

Diamondbacks News

2 Diamondbacks minor leaguers make 2025 All-Star Futures Game by Connor Emery [Arizona Sports]

Caldwell was promoted to Hillsboro in early June, making him the youngest player in the Northwest League.

Groover, 23, has been in the minors for three seasons but is no stranger to playing in the spotlight. In college, he started all 57 games during the 2023 season for NC State but fell short of an appearance in the College World Series.

Diamondbacks’ Corbin Carroll to Begin Swinging a Bat Tuesday by Jack Sommers [SI]

Lovullo believes that Carroll is driving for a return by the All-Star game. “I know that if he gets nominated to play in the All-Star game, he would love to play, and I think he’s really driving hard at getting himself right before that if that does come up.”

Diamondbacks Outfield Prospect Jorge Barrosa Stays Hot for Reno Aces by Jack Sommers [SI]

Bryce Jarvis had another rough outing, giving up four runs in 3.1 innings on six hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts. The other four runs were given up by Yilber Diaz, all in the sixth inning. He walked three batters.

Remembering “The Cobra,” Dave Parker (1951-2025) by Jay Jaffe [FanGraphs]

Last December, 33 years after he last played, Dave Parker was finally elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The lefty-swinging, righty-throwing “Cobra” had once been regarded as the game’s best all-around player, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound slugger who could hit for power and average, had plenty of speed as well as a strong and accurate throwing arm, and exuded as much charisma and swagger as any player of his era. But injuries, cocaine use, and poor conditioning curtailed his prime, and while he rebounded to complete a lengthy and successful career, in 15 years on the writers’ ballots, he’d never drawn even one-third of the support needed for election. He hadn’t come close in three tries on Era Committee ballots, either, but buoyed by the positive attention he had generated while waging a very public battle with Parkinson’s Disease, and backed by a favorable mix of familiar faces on the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee, he finally gained entry to the Hall, alongside the late Dick Allen.

Unfortunately, Parker did not live to deliver the speech he said he’d been holding for 15 years. Just shy of one month from the day he was to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, he passed away at age 74 due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease, which he was diagnosed with in 2012.

Tucker Barnhart To Retire by Nick Deeds [MLB Trade Rumors]

Barnhart was let go by the Rangers earlier this month but re-signed with the club on a minor league deal shortly thereafter. Evidently, he’s decided he’d rather call it a career than play out the season in the minors. He’ll finish his career with 920 games played in the majors, two Gold Glove awards, 6.9 bWAR/5.8 fWAR, 662 hits, and 53 home runs. He hit .241/.318/.351 overall during his time in the majors. MLBTR congratulations Barnhart on a fine career in the majors and wishes him all the best in whatever comes next.
