(AZ Central) Madison Bumgarner set to return from injured list Friday vs. Cubs
“I’d been throwing a lot, working on stuff,” Bumgarner said. “I started long-tossing a little bit more, messing with that program. I tinker and dabble and try to find some things here and there mechanically, and maybe with the amount of throwing, I think maybe got a little carried away.”
He said he is going to try to be more conservative about the amount of throwing he does between starts.
The Snakepit’s favorite talent evaluator has some thoughts on the Diamondbacks’ draft this past week and seems to indicate that the Diamondbacks fifth round pick will be a future runner up for MVP.

Seattle Mariners left-hander Héctor Santiago’s 10-game suspension, stemming from him having a foreign substance on his glove, was upheld on Thursday following an appeal, according to ESPN.com’s Jeff Passan.
Santiago, 33, became the first (and so far the only) pitcher to be ejected from a game since Major League Baseball began enforcing its rules on adhesive substances. Santiago was ejected from the Mariners’ June 27 game against the Chicago White Sox following an inspection by the umpires.

Judge’s inclusion rippled across the league, with players who participated in Tuesday’s All-Star Game flying across the country to play a full slate of games Friday. Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers told ESPN’s Marly Rivera that the team’s five All-Stars would undergo further testing on Thursday. Unvaccinated All-Stars were tested for COVID-19 while in Denver for the game, and all of the tests came back negative, sources said.
(ESPN) Canadian health official says Blue Jays trending toward return to playing MLB games in Canada
The Toronto Blue Jays’ return to their home ballpark is “trending in a very good direction,” Canada’s deputy chief public health officer said Thursday.
The Blue Jays have played their home games this season in Dunedin, Florida, and Buffalo, New York, because the U.S.-Canada border remains closed to nonessential travel. Toronto also played all its home games in Buffalo last season.
(Awful Annoucing) The first-ever all-female MLB broadcast will be Orioles-Rays on YouTube Tuesday
As per a release from MLB and YouTube, Tuesday’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays will mark the first time in MLB history that there’s been an all-female team calling a game. The game broadcast team will be Melanie Newman (the Orioles’ regular radio play-by-play voice since last year, she also called a YouTube game last month), Sarah Langs, and Alanna Rizzo, with Heidi Watney and Lauren Gardner hosting the pre- and post-game show
