(ESPN) Mariners acquire slugger Josh Naylor in trade with D-backs
The Seattle Mariners acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday night, kicking off Major League Baseball’s trade season with a deal that bolsters Seattle’s efforts to return to the postseason and signals the Diamondbacks are open for business.
The deal, which sends left-handed pitching prospect Brandyn Garcia and right-handed pitching prospect Ashton Izzi to the Diamondbacks, reinforces Seattle’s intentions to aggressively add to its roster before the July 31 deadline.
(AZ Central) Diamondbacks trade Josh Naylor for 2 pitching prospects as trade deadline nears
The Arizona Diamondbacks swung baseball’s first major deal ahead of the trade deadline, sending first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners on July 24 in exchange for a pair of pitching prospects.
The deal signals the club’s intentions to sell, a direction that seemed cemented when they were swept this week by the Houston Astros.
At 50-53, the Diamondbacks are 5 1/2 games out of the wild-card race with four teams ahead of them. Their postseason odds, per FanGraphs, are at just 10.8 percent.
(SI.com) Report: Diamondbacks May Hold On to Eugenio Suárez
It’s been a consistent narrative that Arizona Diamondbacks’ slugging third baseman Eugenio Suárez is as good as gone at the July 31 Trade Deadline, but a high asking price may end up preventing a potential deal.
A recent report by MLB.com insider Mark Feinsand states the D-backs won’t just settle for any trade package, and could hold on to Suárez if they don’t get the deal they’re looking for — one that is extremely high in value.
(Arizona Spots) Twelve teams have shown interest in trading for D-backs’ Eugenio Suarez
Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported that 12 teams have inquired about Suarez as of Thursday morning. The Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds, two of his former teams, are included.
The Reds are among the teams the D-backs have mutual interest in working out a Suarez trade with, according to The Athletic’s C. Trent Rosecrans. Suarez played six seasons for the Reds from 2015-21 before being traded to the Mariners, where he played from 2022-23.
(MLB.com) Even after Naylor trade, Suárez still a top target for Seattle (sources)
MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer reported that Suárez is still a top target for Seattle, even after the D-backs and Mariners completed the Naylor trade. Suárez, who turned 34 last week, is having a monster year at the plate, leading MLB with 86 RBIs to go along with 36 home runs and a .918 OPS. He has six multi-homer games this season, including a four-homer performance on April 26 against the Braves.
