Gallen gives D-backs a lift after injury list grows by Steve Gilbert [DBacks.com]
Before the game started, the Diamondbacks, who have been beset by injuries this year, scratched All-Star starter Ketel Marte from the lineup when the second baseman complained of right groin tightness. He is considered day to day.
Then the Diamondbacks announced that closer Shelby Miller was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain. Miller was closing games for Arizona because its previous two closers, A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez, both underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this season.
Diamondbacks’ Zac Gallen Spins Another Gem in Win vs. Padres by Alex D’Agostino [SI]
The eighth inning saw a fan interference after Christian Koss hit a deep fly ball into left field, Tim Tawa was unable to come away with the grab after a fan leaped onto and over the railing to interfere. Koss was awarded second base with one out, the fan was ejected, and the D-Backs avoided disaster after getting a couple outs afterwards to end the inning.

What direction are the Diamondbacks leaning as 2025 MLB Draft approaches? by Nick Piecoro [AZ Central]
Rebhan didn’t argue with the idea that the draft is filled with talented high school players, but he also didn’t make it sound like a selection from the college ranks would be out of the question.
“Obviously, there’s a bunch of those guys — athletic, up the middle, the majority of them being shortstops,” Rebhan said. “That’s been the (consensus) that this draft is loaded with those type players. But the more I hear that, the more I think that college baseball is the best it’s ever been.
Zac Gallen doesn’t want to be in Diamondbacks MLB trade deadline rumors by Bob Nightengale [USA Today]
“I would like to not be in that discussion,” Gallen, who has three top-10 Cy Young finishes in the last five years, tells USA TODAY Sports. “I would like for us – and it starts with me – to put us in a position where the front office believes this is a team they can add to where we can finish this thing out and see what happens come October. Let’s see what happens.”

2025 MLB draft: One big question and intel for all 30 teams by Kiley McDaniel [ESPN]
Day 1 picks: No. 18, No. 29, No. 92
Bonus pool: $10,917,800
One big question: Do they continue to target hit-first, up-the-middle bats?
The D-backs are commonly tied to Slater de Brun, Caden Bodine, Kayson Cunningham and Gavin Kilen given their history of taking compactly built position players such as Corbin Carroll, Alek Thomas and Slade Caldwell.
With two picks in the top 30, they’ll have a couple chances and could conceivably land two of the four players mentioned above, maybe even if they just play it straight, with the college players likely not making it to Pick 29, but at least one of the prep hitters likely will.
This California high school could have 4 players taken on Day 1 of the draft by Jon Paul Morosi [MLB] {Ed. Note: This article isn’t just about scouting reports on 4 high schoolers. It’s a great peek into youth baseball today and what it has become}
The more years I spend as a baseball journalist — and youth sports parent — the less I know for certain. Based on personal experience and research I’ve read, I’m a strong advocate for participation in multiple sports. I also admire the passion of kids who fall in love with baseball at a young age and want to play it as much as possible. It’s difficult to tell young people not to spend time on a pursuit they love, even though taking breaks can be beneficial in the long run.

Last night, exactly one week before they’re slated to make the first overall pick in the 2025 draft, the Nationals fired president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo and manager Dave Martinez. After ESPN’s Jeff Passan broke the news, the team announced assistant general manager Mike DeBartolo will serve as interim GM. Bench coach Miguel Cairo was named interim manager this afternoon.
Dodgers To Activate Tyler Glasnow on Wednesday by Anthony Franco [MLB Trade Rumors]
Glasnow has been out since late April with inflammation in his throwing shoulder. He had made five starts before the injury, surrendering nine runs across 18 innings. Glasnow punched out 23 hitters but issued 11 walks and surrendered four home runs. The Dodgers shut him down for a couple weeks before he built back into game shape. He has been at Triple-A Oklahoma City on a rehab assignment since June 22. Glasnow allowed eight runs in 8 2/3 innings over three minor league appearances. He struck out eight while throwing 78 pitches in 4 1/3 frames during his final rehab start last Thursday.
