SnakeBytes 9/10: These guys again?

This time, the Diamondbacks are ACTUALLY going on a road trip to Seattle!

Diamondback Adjacent News

(The Athletic) The Diamondbacks are once again threatening the 2004 team for the title of worst in franchise history

Diamondbacks players can be forgiven if all the losses run together. Heading into an off day Thursday, Arizona is 45-95, a whopping 50 games under .500. It is on pace to win 52 games and lose 110. If the Diamondbacks lose Friday in their series opener in Seattle, that projected final record will drop a tick to 51-111.

(AZ Central) Sports betting in Arizona begins. Here’s what gamblers should know

I’m sure some of you are into this. A poll on Arizona Sports said roughly 50% of people had at least a passing interesting. There is some good knowledge in here for you if you’re one of them. I, on the other hand, have almost successfully blocked all the new sportsbooks on Twitter so I stop getting them as suggested tweets.

(Yahoo! Sports) Clayton Kershaw to make long-awaited return for Dodgers on Monday

As I said, Diamondback Adjacent. Kershaw will be making his return this upcoming Monday against the Diamondbacks. As far as I can tell, he won’t be making any rehab starts, so maybe that’s a good sign for the Diamondbacks. Either way, this should be a huge boon for the Dodgers, giving them a fully healthy rotation just in time for the final push towards the postseason and beyond.

MLB News

(ESPN) MLB: Hunter Renfroe ‘completely wrong’ in saying that Boston Red Sox were told to stop testing amid COVID-19 outbreak

““MLB basically told us to stop the testing and just treat the symptoms,” Renfroe said earlier Thursday on WEEI’s “Merloni and Fauria” show. “And we were like, ‘No, we’re going to figure out what’s going on and keep trying to keep this thing under control.’”

I would be fascinated to know what actually went down during this situation. It seems highly unlikely to me that MLB straight up told the Red Sox to stop testing, but something was said somewhere to give Renfroe that impression, and I would love to know what it was. Obviously, MLB and the Red Sox refute the claim wholly.

(Yahoo! Sports) Zack Britton has Tommy John surgery, could be out through 2022 season

“He ended up having a reconstruction, a repair and they removed a bone chip from him yesterday,” Aaron Boone said pregame Thursday. “Spoke with him today, he’s still out in LA… as far as timetable and things like that, not gonna speculate on that right now.”

A disappointing end to a disappointing season for Britton.

(SportsTalkATL) Braves: Marcell Ozuna comes to an agreement with prosecutors, where do the Braves go from here?

After seeing his charges reduced from felonies to misdemeanors earlier this summer, Ozuna has agreed to community service, anger management classes, and family violence program. MLB’s investigation is still ongoing, however, so no word on what his status will be for the remainder of the season or next.

(WQAD8 – ABC) River Bandits owner Dave Heller sets the standard for minor league baseball with success on and off the field

Wide ranging interview from surviving the pandemic, the differences between being in the Royals’ organization, where they are now, and the Astros org, where they were before the restructuring, and more. It also touches on the minor league players situation with pay, lack of a union, etc. Good read all around.
