Phoenix Rising FC had a couple of players depart from the squad on Thursday.
Jeremy Kelly — who was used both as a defender and midfielder by manager Rick Schantz — was recalled from his loan spell by MLS side Colorado Rapids.
Additionally, left back Deklan Wynne has been loaned to USL Championship Eastern Conference side OKC Energy FC.
Wynne did not make an appearance for PRFC after signing in January earlier this year.
Kelly started twice in his five appearances after joining Phoenix on loan back in March.
The 23-year-old notched one assist on five key passes and a total pass success rate of 86.2% (106 of 123) over 245 minutes played.
Schantz deployed the No. 9 overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft as both a defender and — most recently — as a midfielder in his time in a PRFC kit.
However, with the reported exclusion of midfielder Kevon Lambert from the Jamaican National Team at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, the loss of Kelly at this point in the USL Championship campaign won’t be as big of a blow.
Kelly’s departure is also alleviated by the recent loan signing of Valley native and MLS’ Real Salt Lake midfielder/defender Tate Schmitt, who has already played as a left back and as a No. 10 under Schantz after joining PRFC in June.
Phoenix Rising hosts LA Galaxy II at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler on Saturday night, with a postmatch fireworks show to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be audio broadcast live on ArizonaSports.com and on the Arizona Sports app.
